Cold Plate: A Favorite Summer Meal!

One of our favorite meals on a Sunday afternoon and summer time is a cold plate.  It works out great for our family b/c two of our three kiddos are pretty picky.  This gives them the opportunity to pick and choose and it means no arguments about what you are going to eat.  This is on our weekly meal list every week and sometimes twice a week during the summer months when we're eating later due to being outdoors longer.

So what is a cold plate?  It's a variety of items that are either cold or require no cooking on our part.  For us it usually consists of a fruit variety (grapes, strawberries, mangoes, kiwi, bananas, orange slices and apples with peanut butter are a few of our favorites), cheese and crackers, sometimes sushi, typically something from the deli like a selection of lunch meats/cold cuts, some type of salad or chicken.  Other items that grace the cold plate table include cottage cheese, yogurt, nuts and berries, raw veggies, chips and dip/salsa.

Here are a few pics from our cold plate today

As you can tell we just lay it all out so everyone gets to pick what they want.  I also love that it brings the opportunity to use a variety of untensils at the table.  It's pretty fun watching your kids learn to use a set of tongs to pick up the fruit from the table... not to mention great for their development!

On every cold plate at our house:  Cheese and crackers.  Today we added Italian cold cuts on swiss cheese and crackers.

Strawberries, Kiwi and Magoes

Sushi rolls (suprisingly 2 of my kids will eat sushi) and general chicken.   Both of these items came from our deli on the way home from church today.

Super Easy, Super Fun, and Everyone gets something they love!
Enjoy,
